Private Residences

Is your outdoor space used to it's full potential?  Whether it's a new outdoor living space for your family, a secluded retreat, a water-wise landscape, or just a little curb appeal, McGee Landscape Architecture can bring your ideas and more to life with our design services.

And if getting more out of your landscape isn't enough, did you know that homes that have been professionally landscaped can fetch 15% to 20% more at the time of resale than homes that lack landscaping?  Also, the general rule of thumb is that you get back 100% to 200% of what you invest in landscaping when you sell your home.  Find out more at "Landscape Design is Your Best Home Improvement Investment" from the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Every residence is unique.  Since each project is distinctive in it’s scope of services, there are no set fees. As a landscape architecture firm, we are an advocate for you, the client.  We do not endorse or sell any product; we only utilize products and materials that make sense for the design itself.  We provide the design you want, taking into account your budgetary needs.  You then are free to install it yourself, or take it to a contractor for installation.  Or if you prefer a design/build experience, we have a close relationship with a contractor who would best help deliver our design to reality.

5 Steps to Getting Your Project Completed with a Landscape Architect

STEP ONE:  Client Meeting / Consultation  The landscape architect will interview you to learn what you want to accomplish with your landscape, your budget for the project, and whether you’ll self-install or hire a contractor.  They’ll also view the site, take some photos and ask more questions.   A few days later you’ll get a proposal with a fee schedule and a general scope of work.  If approved, you’ll receive a contract to sign, submit a retainer payment, and the landscape architect will begin working on your project.

STEP TWO:  Conceptual Design  This phase develops the “big picture” for your completed final product.  A drawing will be produced to show the functionality of the space being designed. Outdoor dining rooms, lawn, gardens, etc. are all visible at this time.  Items are labeled without any detailed descriptions or specification

STEP THREE:  Design Development Documents  With your approval, the conceptual design is developed even further.  Materials and plants are selected.

STEP FOUR:  Construction Documents  These drawings allow the landscape contractor to install the final design.  These include landscape construction plans with custom details, and planting and irrigation plans.  At this point, drawings can be sent out for bid to landscape contractors to determine the actual construction costs of the project.

STEP FIVE:  Construction Administration  If you’re comfortable with your relationship with your landscape architect and would like their help to navigate the construction of your project, they can help with bidding assistance, contractor selection, and even site observation as the project is built.  By including the landscape architect in the construction phase, the client benefits from their expertise in problem solving so the initial concept is not compromised as issues arise during construction.
